Contractor Registration Pilot Program

Postby forumadmin » Thu Oct 03, 2013 12:20 pm

When someone is registered under the State of Minnesota “Contractor Registration Pilot Program” and has an “IR” contractor # they are limited to work within only one of the eight (8) categories listed on the DOLI website.

When verifying a contractor on the DOLI Website should the listing include which of these “special skills” they are registered for?

YES it should. Otherwise, how is the municipality to know what the individual's specialty skill is ?

Yes, I agree it would be very helpful to list the specialty the contractor is registered.

No. it is not a trick question. It came from our permit tech.

According to the state website's explanation when someone registers under this new pilot program and have the "IR" contractor's number when they register they have to choose which of the eight categories they wish to work in and they are limited to work in that category only.

However, when you go to verify their "IR" license it does not list which category the state approved them to work in.

The result being that this week they are a roofer in one city and next week they are installing windows in a different city under the same "IR" number. There is no way of knowing.

I think the state should step up and make this little change in their website so we can verify this information.

Yes they should. Don't worry, it is already in the works and will be implemented with the adoption of the 2017 IBC.
