No, per our jurisdiction garage door replacements are treated as maintenance provided the header is not being disturbed. It is the garage door company to install an overhead door that meets today's code requirements. A state opinion is circulating stating compainies are permitted to sell and install all existing inventory of garage doors that do not meet current requirements. How would an on site inspector determine if the garage door in question was installed from the existing inventory?

If you did not receive or review the "CCLD Review" (electronic news letter from MN DLI-CCLD), this was covered there. Agree or not,... CCLD's take is that yes, permits are required for Garage OH door replacement.

This same article covers re-siding, windows/window sash replacements, and reroofing.

See: 2009 Fall Edtion of the "CCLD Review"
