Question of the Day - #108 Existing houses/energy code

Postby RDavidson » Wed Dec 17, 2014 10:58 am

1322.0100, subpart 3, addresses additions, alterations, and repairs to existing buildings, building systems, or portions of buildings. I have a home built in 1995. I add an addition for a bedroom and kitchen expansion. I’m wondering what I need for energy code compliance. I review the aforementioned code section and find no exceptions for the work I am doing. Must I meet the mechanical ventilation requirements found in energy code section R403.5? If so, how do I apply those rules when part of the building is existing? How do I conduct any testing when part of the home is existing?
