MR 1303.2402, subpart 5, E, requires “all radon gas vent pipes shall be identified with at least 1 label on each story and in attics and crawls spaces.” MR 1303.2402, subpart 5, A, permits these vents in unconditioned spaces and requires that they be insulated with a minimum of R-4 insulation. When inspecting radon vents that extend through unconditioned attics, unconditioned crawl spaces, through garages, on the exterior of the building, or within the confines of an exterior wall, would you permit the label to be placed on the pipe itself or would you require the label be placed on the insulation? Would you require a paper label, such as could be ordered over the Internet, or would you permit the label to be applied by a magic marker? Is it likely that a plumber would connect a toilet to a radon vent on the exterior of a building?
